Teaching Children to Read

With Word Wizard Phonics children get to explore deconstructed letters shapes, consider mouth shapes, sounds and rhythms of spoken language and build their personal word bank. The scheme uses an approach of progressive consolidation by introducing each new phoneme in the context of words featuring letters that children have previously learned.

The ‘Expected sets’ cover the phonemes expected to be taught to children at the Foundation Stage. Additional phonemes are available in the Advanced sets and there are teaching sets for Exception Words and Consolidation.

Guidance and examples of planning can be found here.

Variations are included for both British-English and US-English.
