Grace Orphan Project

We first worked with the Grace Orphan project in Malawi in 2006. At that time the group didn’t have their own place to meet and so we organised activities with them at a local school.

The project had an agreement to use some local land to develop their own facilities and we provided funding to enable them to have this fenced off.

We returned to Malawi a year later by when the land had been cleared and a temporary shack with a grass roof had been built to provide some shelter for teaching activities with the orphans.

It was this group that provided the original inspiration for STORIES4SCHOOLS. Children in Malawi must learn English to progress through the school system even though it is not their normal spoken language. We organised various English language activities with children at the project before establishing STORIES4SCHOOLS with the aim of providing something that could have a longer term impact than our occasional visits.

The pictures show the first STORIES4SCHOOLS books being read to children in their new purpose built classroom. The project is now well established and several of the children that we first met back in 2006 have now completed their schooling including Mussa who can be seen reading a story he wrote to younger children.
